Bowen Posts NCAA B Cut Time As BIG EAST Swimming Concludes

LOUISVILLE, Kent. - University of Connecticut sophomore Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) finished in fifth place in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:35.68 to post an NCAAA B-cut mark as the BIG EAST men's and women's swimming championships concluded on Saturday night. The UConn men finished in fifth place in the event while the women were eighth. Louisville won both the men's and women's team titles.

Bowen's mark was a school record as sophomore Mary DeMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.) finished 15th in the 1,650 meters with a time of 17:13.02.

The UConn men's 400 meter relay team earned All-BIG EAST honors as it finished third in a time of 2:59.92. That team consisted of sophomore Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.), sophomore Jeremy Ramshaw (Mississauga, Ont.), freshman Sean Battle (Allison Park, Pa.) and sophomore Karim Zayed (Montreal, Que.).

Sophomore Kim Fleming (Mississauga, Ont.) finished in fifth place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of  2:00.03. She qualified for the finals with the sixth-fastest qualifying time with 2:00.64. Freshman Katlin Kyle (Lithia, Fla.) was sixth in the consolation finals at 2:04.05. Kyle qualified for the consolation in that event with a time of 2:03.90, which was 13th.

Senior Alex Davidson (Pointe Claire, Que.) won the 200-yard backstroke consolations in 1:48.18 while Ramshaw was fourth in 1:49.38. Zayed was first in the 100-yard freestyle consolation in 44.86 seconds. Sophomore Joe Glowacki (Erie, Pa.) was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly consolations at 1:51.33.

Junior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) was second in the 200-yard breaststroke consolations at 2:15.98 while junior Erin DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) won the 200-yard butterfly consolations at 2:02.26 and junior Chelsea Peitz (Fenton, Mich.) was fifth at 2:03.71.
