GREENSBORO, N.C. - UConn diver Taryn Urbanus (Quincy, Mass.) finished day one of the NCAA Championships on Thursday, placing 30th in the preliminaries of the 1-meter event at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The junior diver totaled a score of 279.70 in the first diving event of the championships. University of Arizona diver Samantha Pickens boasted the top score (330.05) in the preliminaries, while Stanford's Kassidy Cook (323.60) and Kentucky's Rebecca Hamperian (317.35) rounded out the top three.
Urbanus did not qualify for the finals of the event, though she will be back in action on Friday in the 3-meter competition. The preliminaries are set for 11 a.m. and the finals will take place later that day at 7 p.m.
"All in all I think Taryn did a pretty good job in her first exposure to this level of competition," UConn diving coach John Bransfield said. "I look forward to her competing in the 3-meter event with more of her own capabilities."
The Quincy, Mass. native, who earned top-three finishes in the 1 and 3-meter events at least week's NCAA Zone A Meet, is the first Husky to compete in the NCAA Championships since 2013.
