Women's Swimming And Diving Tops Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team improved its record to 3-0 on the season on Friday night as it defeated Army by a 174-126 score.

Senior Mary deMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.) won both the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.20 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.46.

UConn took the top three spots in each diving event. Senior Danielle Cecco (Hicksville, N.Y.) won the one-meter with 283.65 points and the three-meter in 287.48. Senior Nicole Boriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) was second in the one-meter at 264.07 and in the three-meter at 270.15. Freshman Taryn Urbanus (Quincy, Mass.) was third in each with 227.92 in the one-meter and 219.71 in the three-meter.

Senior Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:19.08, freshman Laura Ruttan (Stittsville, Ont.) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.73 and sophomore Holly Gallagher (Haddon Township, N.J.) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.34.

Sophomore Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.92 seconds and freshman Laura Hyland (Southport, England) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.70.

UConn returns to action next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, at the BIG EAST Quad meet in New Brunswick, N.J.
