Women's Swimming Wins Two Of Three

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The University of Connecticut men's swimming and diving team won a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday at the while the Husky women's teams won two out of three meets. The UConn men topped Georgetown by a score of 224-127 while defeating Villanova 263-90. The UConn women beat Georgetown 257-96, lost to Villanova 200-153 and also topped Rutgers 224-129.

The meets were the first dual meet scoring events of the season for both teams.

The UConn men were led by sophomore Jeremy Ramshaw (Mississauga, Ont.), who was at triple winner over the two-day event. Ramshaw won the 400-yard IM in 4:07.63, the 100-yard backstroke in 51.37 (as the Huskies took the three top spots in that event) and the 50-yard freestyle in 21.02.

Senior Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.10 seconds and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.18.

Other individual winners for the UConn men were: sophomore Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.52 seconds, sophomore Karim Zayed (Montreal, Que.) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.73 and senior Alex Davidson (Point-Claire, Que.) in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.18 as the Huskies took the three top places in that event.

The UConn men dominated the diving event as sophomore Grant Fecteau (Delmar, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving as the Huskies took the top four places. UConn also took the top four in the three-meter with junior Brad Schott (Wilton, Conn.) won the event with 347.10 points as UConn again took all top four places.



On the women's side, junior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) was a double-winner in the 200-yard IM at 2:06.39 while she took the 400-yard IM in 4:25.83.

Sophomore Danielle Cecco (Hicksville, N.Y.) won the three-meter diving with 248.30 points.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action next Saturday, Nov. 6 when they host Army at 1:00 p.m.
