STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut mens' and women's swimming and diving teams both posted win over Army Both UConn swimming and diving teams prevailed over Army on Saturday at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
The men's team topped the Black Knights 153-147, while the women's team won 164-127. The men's team is now 3-0 on the season while the women are 3-1. On the women's side, sophomore Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) won both the 1000-yard and 200-yard freestyle. Junior Kaitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.07, despite battling sickness the entire week.
Sophomore Nicole Borriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving with 263.47 points as the Huskies swept the to three spots.
Botht teams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Penn for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
For the men's team, sophomore Jeremy Ramshaw (Mississauga, Ont.) had an outstanding day as he posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.97), the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.83), a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.79 seconds and was part of the winning relay team that gave the Huskies in the win on the final event.
Junior Nick Majtenyi (Catherines, Ont.) won the 200-yard butterly in 1.55.11 which was a key turning point in the meet. Junior Alex Davidson (Pointe-Clarie, Que.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.95 seconds and also won the 200-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) also had a good day with two relays wins and victories in the 50-yard freestyle (20.80 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (46.38). Junior Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland) won a pair of breaststroke events -- the 100-yard (58.76) and the 200-yard (2:07.60).
