Huskies Finish Fourth At Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH - The University of Connecticut men’s swimming and diving team finished third of five teams and the women were fourth of sixth as completion concluded on Sunday at the Pittsburgh Invitational. Ohio State won the women’s side with 1,313 points while UConn had 562 while Pittsburgh won the men’s side with 1,148 and Connecticut had 896 points.

The UConn men were led with some outstanding performance on Sunday as three Huskies won individual titles. Freshman Sawyer Franz (Pine, Colo.) was first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:41.80 and later was third in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:50.52.

Junior Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) won the 100-yard freestyle in 44.87 seconds while freshsman Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:01.31.

The Husky women were led by junior Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.), who was fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:42.77.

The Huskies return to action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3 at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Atlanta.
