PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second straight week, UConn swept the American Athletic Conference weekly diver awards. Junior John Brice (Bala Cynwood, Pa.) was tabbed as the Male Diver of the Week, while sophomore Alexandra Butera (Havertown, Pa.) earned Female Diver of the Week honors following their performances against Dartmouth on Saturday.
The two Huskies were dominant in UConn's final dual meet of the season, combining to win three of the four events. Brice swept his two events, as he won the 1-meter with a score of 313.95 before capturing first-place honors in the 3-meter (343.88). The Bala Cynwood, Pa. native, who was named to the All-Big East Team as a freshman, has posted the top score in each of his last six events.
Butera finished in the top-two in both events against Dartmouth this past weekend. She won the 3-meter after totaling 282.92 points, and she followed that up with a second-place finish in the 3-meter (276.75). Tuesday's announcement marked the first-ever weekly conference award for the Havertown, Pa. native.
The UConn women's team defeated Dartmouth over the weekend to end its dual meet season with a record of 5-1, while the men's team lost to the Big Green, finishing the season at 4-2. The Huskies return to action this Saturday when they host the UConn Open at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. Admission to the annual event is free, and the action gets underway at 11 a.m.
