STORRS, Conn. – CollegeSwimming.com announced Swimmers of the Week for the American Athletic Conference and senior co-captain Sophie Nothnagle (Victor, N.Y.) along with freshman Will Kearsey (Wheathampstead, England) were honored by the publication.
Nothnagle won Swimmer of the Week after snagging a pair of first-place finishes at the Husky Open on Saturday, Feb. 4. With the opportunity to swim in a variety of events, Nothnagle, typically a butterfly specialist, scored a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.09) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.96).
Kearsey also notched first-place finishes in multiple events, winning both the 50-yard backstroke (24.10) and the 100-yard IM (52.91). He also took part in the 50-yard freestyle and placed second (21.37) in the event.
UConn heads into its biggest meet of the season with the American Athletic Championships (Feb 15-18) taking place in Houston, Texas. Houston, Texas. The men’s team finished fourth in The Championships, while the women’s squad captured sixth in the 2016 American Championships.
