UConn Remains In Fourth Place After Day Three Of Conference Championships

LOUISVILLE, K.Y. – The University of Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team remained in fourth place following day three of the American Athletic Conference Swimming Diving Championships, which were held Friday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Multiple Huskies placed in the swimming finals Friday, starting in the 400-yard IM, where junior Tessa Pena (Apex, N.C.) finished seventh with a time of 4:25.90. Louisville’s Tan Kylliainen won the event after swimming it in 4:04.96.

In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Tara O’Prey (Ridley Park, Pa.) earned seventh place honors with a time of 55.65 to give the Huskies 12 points, while fellow freshman Christine Pedersen (Vinterbro, Norway), who has been strong in backstroke events all year for the Huskies, completed the 100-yard backstroke final in 54.77 to take home seventh place.

Pedersen and O’Prey teamed up with sophomore Laura Ruttan (Stittsville, Ontario) and junior Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.) in the final event of the night, as the UConn team finished the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:45.15 to earn fifth place honors.

The Huskies (309) trail Louisville (654), Southern Methodist (443) and Rutgers (378) as they head into the final day of the conference meet Saturday. The swimming preliminaries take place at 10 a.m. tomorrow, while the diving preliminaries begin at 12:30 p.m. Both the swimming and diving finals will start at 6 p.m. tomorrow night.
