Swimming and Diving Hosts Brown on Saturday

Margot Manning captured first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke in season opener

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women’s swimming and diving team return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host Brown at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs at 1 p.m.

UConn opened up the season with a double win against the University of Bridgeport (160.0 – 110.0) and Keene State Swim and Dive (188.0 – 98.0).

Monica Marcello (Middletown, Conn) earned American Conference Diver of the Week with her performance in the opening meet. Marcello picked up first place finishes in two events. Scoring a 284.62 to take the top spot in the one-meter dive and followed it up with a 287.10 mark in the 3-meter.

Margot Manning (Frederick, Md.) and Christine Pedersen (Vinterbro, Norway) both captured first place finishes in multiple events in the season-opener. Manning was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle (52:98) and 200-yard IM (2:08.88).

Pedersen triumphed in the 100-yard backstroke (57:32) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.65).



The Huskies now gear up for the Bears on Saturday, an opportunity for the team to face a great challenge according to their Head Coach Bob Goldberg.

“Brown has been one of the best teams in the region,” said Goldberg. “This will be our first real challenge of the season. Our first meet was a tune up and now we are looking forward to a challenging test, excited to see how the team does.”
