STORRS, Conn. (October 29, 2005) - The University of Connecticut men’s swimming and diving team came out on top of Villanova in the Huskies first BIG EAST matchup of the season with a score of 195-46, while the women’s team fell short losing 120.5-122.5.

Sophomore diver T.J. Ferguson (Plainville, Conn.) dove to victory as he qualified for the NCAA Zone Regional meet in March. Junior Kevin Thompson (Stamford, Conn.) and Sophomore Michael Clifford (West Islip, N.Y.) both posted BIG EAST qualifying dives. Junior Tristan Jones (Wanniassa, Australia) continued to perform well winning both the 100 and 200 freestyle events.

Freshmen Katie DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) and Kristalynn Kempton (Glen Head, N.Y.) added wins for the women’s team in the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Freshman diver Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.), once again, made outstanding performances in the dive events.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, November 5, as they host Rutgers in the Huskies first home dual meet of the season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. (ET) at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
