WEST POINT, N.Y. - The UConn women's tennis team fell to Army 6-1 on Sunday morning in their second match of the 2011 spring season.
Emily Herb took the lone victory for the Huskies, winning the No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win over Army's Annie Hang.
Army swept the Huskies in all of the doubles' matches as Jennifer Learmonth and Emily Herb fell to Annie Houghton and Jamila Paul 8-5. In No. 2 doubles, Alexa Gregory and Abby McKeon dropped their match 8-6, while senior captain Katie Moritz and teammate Lucy Nutting dropped the No. 3 doubles 8-5.
Learmonth fell in No. 1 singles to Army's Annie Houghton who won the match 6-1, 6-2. Following Herb's singles' victory, her teammate Alexa Gregory was edged by Jamila Paul 6-1, 7-5. Lauren Wilmarth, Abby McKeon and Lucy Nutting each battled in singles' competition but all fell in their respective matches.
Wilmarth dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Jessica Ahn as McKeon lost to Margaret Iliev 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6. Lastly, Nutting dropped the No. 6 singles to Emily Stein 6-3, 6-1.
UConn will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 as the Huskies host Massachusetts at 1:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
