Huskies Drop AAC Meeting with UCF, 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla. - The UConn women's tennis team took on American Athletic Conference opponent UCF on Friday afternoon, falling to the Knights 6-1 in their first dual action of the season against a conference opponent.  The Huskies dropped to 4-3 with the loss.

UCF opened the match sweeping all three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead.  UConn's Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) and Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) lost a 6-4 decision at #1 to Carloine Eberhart and Kennan Johnson.  The freshman team of Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) and Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) also fell 6-4 in the #3 slot.

In singles play, the Huskies got their lone point of the match at #2 where sophomore Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) posted a 6-4 and 6-2 win over Cortney Cesarini.  Stosljevic lost a three-set battle in the #1 spot, falling to Eberhart.  Stosljevic won the first set 7-5 but fell 6-3 in the second and dropped the third in a tiebreaker, 10-4.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday when they face Bethune Cookman at 9:30 am.
