UConn Women's Tennis Falls at St. John's 6-1

FLUSHING MEADOW, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team was in action on Sunday afternoon, taking on the St. John's Red Storm in Flushing Meadow at the National Tennis Center.  The Huskies dropped a 6-1 decision to the Red Storm to fall to 1-3 in dual match play this season.

The Huskies lone point come in singles play as sophomore Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) in the #1 slot.  Stosljevic defeated Khrystyna Pavlyuk in two-sets, winning 6-1 and 6-3.

UConn lost the doubles point but did get a win at #3 from the senior duo of Jennifer Learmonth (Elgin, S.C.) and Marie Gargiulo (Weston, Conn.), who beat the team of Pavlyuk and Puck Vlaskamp, 8-5.

Learmonth and fellow senior Lucy Nutting (Wilmington, Del.) both lost tough three-set battles in singles play.  Learmonth lost to Stephanie Elgegren at #6, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).  Nutting fell to Diamond Adams at #4, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-2).

The Huskies will return to action on February 28th and March 1st when they face American Athletic Conference foe Cincinnati and James Madison down in Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.
