STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team picked up their first dual match victory of the spring season, beating the Fairfield Stags 7-0 at the Manchester Raquet Club.  The Huskies snap a six-match losing streak with the win and improve to 2-6 in dual matches this season.

"We had a great win today," stated head coach Glenn Marshall.  "The team played outstanding doubles to secure the poiint and we got off to a great start in singles play with all six of our players winning their first sets.  Both Emma Alderman and Jennifer Learmonth hung tough and battled their way to three-set wins."

Sophomore Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and senior Lucy Nutting (Wilmington, Del.) posted an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over Monica Yajima and Allison Radde.  The Huskies closed out the doubles point with a win at #3 from the senior duo of Jennifer Learmonth (Elgin, S.C.) and Marie Gargiulo (Weston, Conn.).  The two posted an 8-2 win over Kaila Nelson and Karen McKeough.

The Huskies swept all six singles matches led by Stosljevic at #1, 6-2 and 6-4 over Yajima, her team-leading 12th singles win this year.  Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) won at #3 over Allison Radde, 6-2 and 7-6 (5) while Nutting posted a 6-1 and 6-2 win at #4 over Nelson to reach double digit victories on the season (10).  Nutting is a team-best 6-2 in dual match singles play this season.

Freshman Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kan.) won in straight-sets at #5 over McKeough, 6-0 and 6-1.  Fellow rookie Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) battled her way to a three-set victory over Sharissa Ryan to notch her 11th victory in singles play.  Alderman won the first set 6-3 but dropped the second 6-2.  She rebounded in the third for a 10-5 tie-breaker win.

Learmonth also earned a hard fought three-set win, beating Victoria Pirrello at #6.  Learmonth won 6-1 in the first, dropped the second set 6-4 and answered with a 6-2 win in the third.

The Huskies are on the road this weekend for a pair of matches at the University of Houston.  UConn will face the Cougars in an American Athletic Conference match on Saturday and face Louisana Tech on Sunday afternoon.
