ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis suffered a 7-0 to Illinois State on Saturday in the first match of spring break. The Huskies trailed early after losing the doubles point to the Red Birds who have now won three-straight matches this spring.
Senior Alli Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Abby McKeon (Westford, Mass.) were shutout at No. 2 doubles while the first and third doubles teams both fell 8-3. Senior Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and junior Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) lost their battle at No. 1 while freshman Lauren Wilmarth (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) fell at No. 3.
Campitiello lost her match at second singles and McKeon fell to Hannah Esker in the sixth spot. LoRusso lost a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles. Franziska Steinhardt defeated Wilmarth, 7-5, 6-3 from the fourth singles spot.
Herb fell 6-0, 6-1 to Natalia Lech in the third singles.Sophomore Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) lost her singles match at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2.
The Huskies will play Bethel on Monday before taking a break before taking on Liberty on Wednesday.
