Huskies Sweep Valparaiso 7-0

PUERTO RICO - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team swept the non-conference match against Valparaiso 7-0 on Thursday morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

After blanking Minnesota State on Wednesday, UConn came out on Thursday looking to do the same as the Huskies' succeeded in that quest.

Jennifer Learmonth and Abby McKeon won their singles matches and combined to win their doubles' match against Valparaiso's Kristin Zakiewicz and Katie Bilyeu 8-2. In No. 1 singles, Learmonth defeated Brittany O'Reilly in a pair of 6-0 sets, while McKeon downed Jackie O'Reilly 6-1, 6-3.

Abby McKeon won No. 3 singles with a pair of 6-2 wins over Zakiewicz, while in No. 4 singles, Marie Gargiulo was able to beat Stephanie York 6-2, 7-5 in a competitive match-up.

In No. 5 singles, Julia Allen downed Katie Bilyeu 6-4, 6-3 in her second straight match victory of the year, while in No. 6 singles, Sarah Griffin defeated Aubree Zdanovec 6-2, 6-0.

Katie Moritz teamed up with freshman Lucy Nutting and won their doubles' match as they defeated Jackie O'Reilly and York 8-1. Gargiulo and Lauren Wilmarth won the No. 3 doubles by blanking Brittany O'Reilly and Zdanovec 8-0.
