EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team fell to 0-2 in American Athletic Conference action this spring thanks to a 5-2 loss to the University of Houston Friday afternoon at the East Hartford Tennis Club. The Huskies have dropped five-straight and will now head to Florida for three matches next week on their annual spring break trip.
UConn sophomore Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.) was a double winner on Friday, picking up a doubles victory with classmate Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and winning at No. 3 singles.
Houston opened by winning the doubles point but Fitz-Randolph and Perrotta prevented the Cougars from getting a sweep by winning at No. 2 over Cristina Rovira and Constanden Nicolaou, 7-6 (5). The duo raised their team-best doubles record to 13-6 on the season. Randolph would meet Rovira again on the singles court and earned a 7-6 (2) and 7-5 victory.
The Huskies also notched a win at No. 6 as sophomore Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ana Glumac. She moved her singles record to 9-1 on the season with the win.
UConn will play three matches in Florida next week starting on Tuesday at Florida Atlantic. The Huskies will also face Northern Illinois and George Washington on the trip.
