March 13, 2017

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UConn women's tennis team opened their annual spring break trip on Monday afternoon, falling at Florida Atlantic, 4-0 at the FAU Tennis Complex.  The Huskies will play three matches this week down in Florida.

The Huskies picked-up a win at No. 3 doubles from the senior-sophomore team of Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) and Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) who posted a 7-5 win over Lyndsey Boos and Marisa Ruiz.  The win left the doubles point up for grabs on the outcome of the No. 1 match.

UConn's top-tandem of senior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and junior Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) lost a battle with Laura Fabrizi and Ana Gutierrez in a tie-breakers, 7-6 (5).

The match was decided using the clinch format and the Owls sealed the win by taking the top-three singles matches.

The Huskies will look to end a six-match slide on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Northern Illinois at 2 pm in Boca Raton, Fla.  UConn will finish their spring trip on Thursday facing George Washington.
