ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell in the final match in Orlando with the Liberty Flames escaping with a narrow 4-3 victory. Four losses in singles play proved to be the difference after the Huskies secured the doubles points with senior Alli Campitiello (State Island, N.Y.) and freshman Abby McKeon (Westford, Mass.) winning their match at No. 2 before the third match went to UConn by default.
Junior Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) fell in a three-set battle at No. 3 after Fabiana Gouveia tied it up. Gouveia went on to win it despite Herb's 6-4 first-set victory.
The Flames won four of the six singles matches for the overall win with sophomore Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) securing a win in fifth singles with a pair of 6-2 decisions over Brittany Thomas. UConn picked up its third point of the match with a default decision at No. 6.
Now 3-8 on the year, the Huskies travel to Fairfield on Wednesday, March 17 for a 3 p.m. match with their intrastate rival. It is UConn's final regular season non-conference match of the season.
