NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UConn women's tennis team lost at Cal State Northridge on Thursday afternoon, 5-2. The Huskies will conclude their spring break trip on Friday taking on Long Beach State.
The Huskies were led by junior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnista, Ukraine) who teamed for a doubles victory and each earned singles wins as well.
Alderman and Pletnyeva got UConn off to a solid start in doubles with a 6-2 win over Vivian Lin and Skyla Alcon at #2. It was the duo's fifth-straight doubles win and improved their team-best record to 14-7 this season. The Matadors rebounded with wins at #1 and #3 to take the doubles point heading into singles play.
UConn evened the match at 1-1 thanks to Alderman winning 6-1 and 6-0 at #2 over Lin. For Alderman, it was her third-straight singles win and gives her an 8-4 record playing at #2 this season. The Matadors clinched the match with three-straight wins following Alderman's victory at #2.
Pletnyeva gave the Huskies their other point in the loss with her team-best 19th singles victory. She beat Alcon, 7-5 and 6-2 to win her fourth-straight match while improving to 10-2 when playing at #3 this season.
The Huskies will face the 49ers tomorrow at 4:00 pm E.T. to close out their spring trip to California.
