FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team lost a single tennis match in its 6-1 victory at Fairfield on Wednesday. En route to their fourth win of the spring season, the Huskies swept doubles and were the victors of a three-set singles match at No. 1. Senior Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) bounced back from a second set loss to win the first singles match at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
"This was a solid win over a very good team," head coach Glenn Marshall said. "Our players had good energy in singles and doubles today. I was very pleased with our effort."
LoRusso paired with junior Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) at first doubles to win 8-3 over Fairfield's Paulina Rys and Kristen Liu. Junior Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and sophomore Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) won an 8-5 decision from the third doubles spot while the second UConn doubles team was the quickest to victory.
McKeon lost her singles match to Ruiz in a 7-6 (10-5), 6-1 decision at No. 4. Campitiello defeated Rys in straight 6-2 sets from the second spot. Moritz won her No. 6 singles match in straight sets of 6-1.
Herb rounded out the UConn victors with a 6-1, 6-4 favorable decision in third singles.
The Huskies continue the season when they return to the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts to host Providence on Wednesday, March 24. It will be the third BIG EAST match of the season for the women's tennis team against Providence. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
