LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UConn women's tennis team wrapped up their spring break trip on Friday afternoon taking on Long Beach State University. The Huskies dropped their second-straight match on the trip, falling 6-1 to the 49ers to fall to 6-7 on the season.
"It was a tough match today against a team that is consistently in the national rankings," stated head coach Glenn Marshall. "Sophomore Zaina Zaki had an outstanding performance in singles, dominating her opponent in two quick sets."
The Huskies lone point on Friday came at the #6 singles spot as sophomore Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) posted a 6-3 and 6-0 win over Ella Monsey. Sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnista, Ukraine) battled Jule Gerard at #3 singles but lost in three sets. Pletnyeva won the opening set 6-4 but fell 6-4 and 10-3 in the third set tiebreaker.
UConn will return to the east coast and get back on the court on Thursday, March 24th when they trave to Boston University for a match at 3:00 pm.
