STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team finished out their spring break trip with a 7-0 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Tuesday. The Huskies went 2-0 on the trip and improved their dual match record to 4-8 on the season.
The Huskies swept through all six singles matches without dropping a set including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins by freshman Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Lucy Nutting (Wilmington, Del.). Alderman improved her record to 13-8 overall on the season while Nutting improved to 12-9 and is now 8-4 in dual match play with seven of those wins coming at the #4 spot.
Junior Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) won her #3 singles match 6-1 and 6-0 while freshman Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kan.) matched that with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #5 singles. For Flanagan, it was her 10th singles victory of the season and makes her the fourth Husky to reach double digit wins in singles play this year.
Senior Jennifer Learmonth (Elgin, S.C.) and sophomore Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) closed out the singles sweep for UConn. Learmonth won 6-4 and 6-1 at #6 singles and Stosljevic picked up her eighth win playing at #1, winning 6-1 and 6-1. Stosljevic is now 8-4 at #1 singles in dual matches this season.
In doubles play, Learmonth notched her team-leading 17th doubles victory of the season thanks to a 8-1 win at #2 with Stosljevic. At #1, Alderman and Weinberg picked up an 8-0 victory and Flanagan and senior Marie Gargiulo made it a clean sweep with an 8-0 win at #3.
The Huskies will be back in action on March 26th when they travel to Boston University.
