SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won the lone point for the University of Connecticut women's tennis team at Syracuse on Friday. Herb earned a three-set victory at No. 4 singles for the Huskies as they fell 6-1 in their first match after spring break. With the loss, UConn falls to 4-5 this spring.
Herb lost the first set 6-1 before recovering in the second to even the score with a 6-4 second set win. She earned the victory with a tiebreaker in the third set, winning 11-9 over Syracuse's Ashley Spicer.
The Huskies started the match down by after facing stiff competition in doubles play. UConn lost all three doubles matches to the Orange.
BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) saw her singles winning streak snapped, suffering a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Simone Kalhorn at No. 3. Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) forced a 7-5 decision in the second set of her loss at No. 6 singles. Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) denied her opponent an absolute sweep, winning three games in the final set. Alison Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) lost in two-sets 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
"We came up against a tougher team today at Syracuse," head coach Glenn Marshall. "We need to bounce right back and focus on our match tomorrow with Georgetown."
Women's tennis host Georgetown as part of a dual match to begin at 11 a.m. at the University of Connecticut tennis courts on Saturday.
