STORRS, Conn. – With a 4-3 victory over Seton Hall yesterday in South Orange, N.J., the UConn women’s tennis program won its sixth straight match to improve to 6-6 this spring. The Huskies have won two straight matches in BIG EAST play.
“The team played tough in singles to win four of six matches. We needed that after losing the doubles point to start the match,” said UConn director of tennis Glenn Marshall.
The Huskies needed to take four of the six matches in singles play and did just that. Learmonth fell at No. 1 but the Huskies responded with victories at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No 6.
Alexa Gregory gave the Huskies their first point of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 results at No. 2 singles. She was followed by Weinberg with a 6-1, 7-5 score. Lucy Nutting took her match at No. 4 by scores of 6-2, 6-2 and Lauren Wilmarth won at No. 6, 7-5, 6-3.
The Huskies will host a non-conference match against Bryant on Sunday at Noon at the UConn Tennis Courts in Storrs.
