STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team played their first outdoor match of the spring season on Wednesday afternoon and posted a dominating 7-0 win over Hartford on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts. The win raised the Huskies record to 7-8 on the season.
The Huskies didn't drop a set on the afternoon and started the day with a sweep of doubles play. Senior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Saad, Serbia) and freshman Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.) posted a 6-2 win at #1 over Skyler Schaar and Karolina Pilip. Freshman Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and sophomore Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) sealed the doubles point with a 6-0 win over Emily Lindslay and Gianna Sabino.
In singles play, the trio of sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnista, Ukraine), sophomore Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) and freshman Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Junior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) posted a 6-1 and 6-2 win at #1 over Schaar. Flanagan notched a singles victory at #3 over Emily Lindsley, 6-0 and 6-3. The Huskies also earned a win at #7 where Hartford did not contest the match.
The Huskies will stay home this weekend and welcom the University of Rhode Island to Storrs on Sunday afternoon.
