STORRS, Conn. - Junior Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) won her three-set battle at No. 6 singles in the University of Connecticut women's tennis team's 6-1 loss to Rutgers on Wednesday. Moritz is now 4-0 from that spot this spring while the Huskies fall to 4-7 on the year. UConn is 1-4 in BIG EAST action and are 5-10 overall this season.
Moritz defeated Rutgers' Christine Tran after losing the opening set to win the match, giving the Huskies one victory in a trio of three set battles that took place against the Scarlet Knights.
Amy Zhang and Jennifer Holzberg, ranked 80th in the nation, won their fifth-consecutive doubles match over senior Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Moritz. The UConn duo is now 4-7 from the No. 1 doubles spot this season.
Senior Alli Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Abby McKeon (Westford, Mass.) were the other two Huskies to fall in three set matches at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts. Campitiello lost her battle at No. 2 to Holzberg while McKeon fell in three to Leonora Slatnick at No. 5.
UConn looks ahead to a 2 p.m. match against Seton Hall on Friday.
