PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The women's tennis team was hoping to sneak in its BIG EAST match at Providence before the rain, the teams were forced to cease play and await the opportunity to continue the match at a later date and time.
Doubles play ended before the rain started and the Huskies had the upper hand entering singles play. Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won an 8-3 match at No. 1 singles.
UConn earned wins at second and third doubles with a pair of 8-2 decisions. Alison Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) were success from the No. 2 spot while Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) and Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) completed the sweep with a win at No. 3.
Connecticut was leading all of the singles matches after LoRusso, Campitiello and Emily Searle (Lyme, Conn.) were able to win the first set of their respective battles.
Cheung as well as Herb at third and fourth were also leading, but had to stop before the first set was in the books.
The Huskies remain on the road for a match against Pittsburgh in Morgantown, W.Va. on Saturday before taking on host, West Virginia on Sunday.
