EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team earned their second-straight sweep on Sunday afternoon, blanking the University of Rhode Island, 7-0, at the East Hartford Tennis Club. The Huskies evened their record at 8-8 on the season with the win, their fourth sweep this season.
For the second-straight match, the Huskies did not drop a single set on the way to victory. A pair of 6-0 wins at #1 and #3 doubles clinched the opening point for UConn. Freshman Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) and junior Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) posted a 6-0 win at #3 over Elizaveta Sadovinkova and Nicole Kalver.
At #1, junior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnista, Ukraine) won 6-0 over Anna Peacock and Taylor Holden. The Huskies completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at #2 with senior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Saad, Serbia) and freshman Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.) beating Jordan Rucks and Ariel Haber.
In singles, Stosljevic, Alderman, Pletnyeva and Flanagan all earned wins to finish the day as double winners. Stosljevic won at #1, 6-1 and 6-3 over Peacock while Alderman won her #2 match with Holdon, 6-2 and 6-3.
Pletnyeva picked-up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #3 over Sadovnikova, winning her third-straight match and picking up her team-leading 22nd victory on the year. Flanagan won at #4 over Rucks, 6-0, 6-1 to reach the 20-win mark on the season.
Sophomore Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at #5 over Haber and classmate Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) completed the sweep at #6 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kalver.
UConn will play its third-straight home match this Saturday, April 9th when they host Villanova on Senior Day at 1:00 pm.
