STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell to 0-4 against American Athletic Conference opponents this spring after falling to Rutgers 6-1 Thursday afternoon at home. The Huskies are 5-11 overall and 0-4 in the AAC while Rutgers improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the league.
UConn sophomore Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) won her third-straight singles match and improved to 11-5 playing at #1 this season to record the Huskies lone point in the loss. Stosljevic staged an impressive three-set comeback after going down 6-0 in the first set to Vanessa Petrini.
Stosljevic rebounded for a 6-4 in the second set and then battled back from down 5-2 in the third set to win 7-6 (1) for her 18th singles victory this season. She is now 8-2 in her last 10 singles matches.
The Huskies did pick-up a win in the doubles play as the team of junior Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) beat Gina Li and Farris Cunningham 8-6 at #2 doubles. It is the second-straight victory for the duo as they improve to 7-9 as a doubles team this season.
UConn will make their final road trip of the season this weekend, heading to Georgetown on Saturday and Villanova on Sunday.
