PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team rebounded from a tough weekend to cruise past Providence 7-0 on Tuesday. The Huskies dominated the Friars in a match that began on April 1 before it was postponed due to rain.
Emily Searle (Lyme, Conn.) shutout Liz Gillis in a two-set win at No. 6 singles. Both BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) each had one 6-0 set win in their respective battles at third and fourth singles.
Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) held Ayushi Sinha to a single win in her 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 and No. 5 singles, Alison Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) continued Connecticut's dominance letting each of their opponents win no more than three games in a single set.
In doubles, LoRusso and Herb held their Friar opponent to just three games in their victory at No. 1, while UConn earned a pair of 8-2 victories at second and third doubles. Cheung and Campitiello won at the No. 2 spot while Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) and Gregory won in third.
UConn is set to take on Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
