STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s tennis team notched their third-straight win on Saturday, blanking Villanova 4-0 on “Senior Day” on the UConn Tennis Courts in Storrs. The Huskies also scored their third-straight sweep of an opponent as they raise their record to 9-8 on the season.
“This was a great day for our team with a very solid win over Villanova on Senior Day,” stated head coach Glenn Marshall. “Srna played great in her last home match, dominating her opponent in straight sets. The rest of the team was very focused on playing well, so we could all celebrate and enjoy our senior day for Srna. Our last few matches have given us some nice momentum heading into two tough conference matches next weekend.”
The Huskies and Wildcats played singles first on Saturday and once UConn clinched the match, did not contest doubles.
Senior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Saad, Serbia), playing in her final home match, opened the singles sweep by winning her 19th match of the season, 6-0 and 6-2 over Tori Smyth at #1. Sophomore Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) notched her fourth-straight win and raised her team-best record to 23-7 on the season thanks to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lindsey Evans at #3.
