WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite securing the doubles point at Georgetown, the University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell in a 4-3 decision on Saturday. The Huskies won doubles matches and second and third en route to an early advantage at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. UConn is now 5-8 this spring with a 2-5 record in BIG EAST action.
Senior Alli Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Abby McKeon (Westford, Mass.) paired up for their seventh victory from the No.2 doubles spot this spring. With an 8-4 decision to go along with junior Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and sophomore Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) victory at No. 3, the Huskies won the doubles point over the Hoyas.
Gregory and McKeon both went on to win their respective singles matches with wins at fourth and fifth, respectively. Gregory is now 4-5 after her 6-3, 6-4 victory while McKeon improves to 4-2 with a 7-5, 6-2 decision.
The Hoyas had a two point advantage when they secured the narrow victory with a win at No. 3 singles.
UConn resumes BIG EAST action on the road with an 11 am. match at Villanova on Sunday.
