Women's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The UConn women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Rutgers on Tuesday afternoon in BIG EAST Conference action in Piscataway, N.J.

Marie Gargiulo and Lucy Nutting earned a win in No. 3 doubles to lead the Huskies as they defeated Maryana Milchutsky and Vanessa Petrini 8-6. Their win wasn't enough as Rutgers took the doubles' point with an 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles and an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 spot.

Lauren Wilmarth battled in No. 4 singles, forcing three sets as she won the second set 6-2. Despite the set win, she dropped a pair of 6-2 sets to take the match loss.

After falling 6-0 in their first two sets, Abby McKeon and Lucy Nutting both battled back in the second set despite being edged by their Rutgers' opponents. McKeon dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to Petrini in the No. 5 singles' spot, while Nutting fell 6-0, 6-4 to Leonora Slatnick in No. 6 singles.

UConn returns to action on Friday, April 22 in a 10:00 a.m. match at Syracuse in Syracuse, N.Y.
