Women's Tennis Falls to Marquette 4-0 at BIG EAST Championship

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The UConn women's tennis team fell to Marquette 4-0 in its opening match of the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Tennis Championship in South Bend, Ind.

"Marquette was just a stronger team than us today but we had great efforts by junior Alexa Gregory and senior captain Emily Herb," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall.

Gregory battled in a 5-6 set to Marquette's Rachael Hush, while Herb won her first set 6-2 and played to a 5-5 second set. Both matches did not finish.

Chelsea Utting defeated Abby McKeon 6-0, 6-1 to start off the afternoon before UConn's Jennifer Learmonth fell to Marquette's Olga Fisher 6-1, 6-0.

Lauren Wilmarth battled in No. 3 singles but fell to Gillian Hush 6-3, 6-1.

Freshman Lucy Nutting dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Rocio Diaz in No. 6 singles to finish the match.

UConn will face the loser of the Georgetown/Cincinnati match on Friday, April 29 afternoon in the consolation bracket of the BIG EAST Championship in South Bend.
