STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team opened match play with a 7-0 win at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts on Thursday. It was the first of just two matches on the fall schedule for the Huskies who will travel to the Bucknell Invitational this weekend.
Two UConn doubles teams surpassed their Bryant opponents by an 8-2 score in second and third doubles. Sophomore Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and freshman Lauren Wilmarth (Andover, Mass.) won their battle at second doubles while junior Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) and freshman Abby McKeon (Westford, Mass.) continued to find their stride with a victory at third.
Herb shutout Katharine Francozio in second doubles while each of her teammates shutout their respective Bulldog opponents to one game in straight-set victories. Valeria Couto Cuervo took two games over Campitiello in third singles only to be shutout by Campitiello in her 6-2, 6-0 victory.
UConn heads to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invitational Oct. 2-4 along with the men's tennis team this weekend.
