FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell to Sacred Heart 4-3 in a dual match on Tuesday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn.
Alexa Gregory was successful for the Huskies, winning her singles' match 6-0, 6-3 over Sacred Heart's Darcy Demers. Gregory also paired up with Abby McKeon to win their doubles' match 8-7 over the Pioneers.
McKeon won her singles' match, downing Kristina Chao 6-2, 6-1 for the victory.
Freshman Lucy Nutting continued to have a successful rookie campaign as she defeated Delaney Downing 6-2, 6-1. Jennifer Learmonth and Emily Herb both won the first set of their matches before falling to their SHU opponent. Learmonth fell to Kate Donnelly 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Herb fell to Elizabeth Harrington 4-6, 7-6, 7-5. In doubles' play, the Husky duo fell 8-4.
Nutting and teammate Lauren Wilmarth dropped their doubles' match 8-6 as Wilmarth was edged in her singles' match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to Sacred Heart's Gabi Kaldan.
The Huskies will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 20 when they host Quinnipiac University in dual match competition beginning at 2:00 p.m.
