CAMBRIDGE, Mass, - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team finished out the fall portion of their 2013-14 schedule competing at the USTA / ITA Northeast Regional Championship held at Harvard University.
The team of junior Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) and sophomore Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) scored a doubled victory in the main doubles draw at the event. The Husky duo notched an 8-4 victory over the team of Meliss Matsuoka and Julienne Keong Si Ying of Dartmouth College. In second round action, Weinberg and Stosljevic were tripped up by Boston University's Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and Johanna Hyoty, 8-2.
In the singles qualifying draw, senior Lucy Nutting (Wilmington, Del.) posted a opening 7-5, 6-4 win over Yanita Arnaudova of St. John's. Nutting saw her tournament end in the next round, falling to Nicole Chis of Fairleigh Dickinsons, 6-4, 7-5.
Stosljevic lost in the opening round of the main singles draw, losing to Anna Morozova of St. John's, 6-0, 6-3.
The Huskies will open the spring slate on February 8th & 9th when the travel to West Point, N.Y. for dual matches against Army and Stony Brook.
