Schumsky Helps UConn Earn Split of BIG EAST Matches

SYRACUSE, NY (Feb. 16, 2003) - The University of Connecticut women’s tennis team split a pair of BIG EAST duals at Syracuse on Friday and Saturday. The Huskies dropped the first dual to Syracuse 6-1, but defeated West Virginia 4-3. The split moves the Huskies to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST.

UConn was led by sophomore Barbara Schumsky who won both her singles matches in the No. 3 spot and won one of two doubles matches with partner Jen LoRusso. Trinell Russel and LoRusso also recorded single wins against West Virginia at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. In doubles Russel and Whitney Simcik teamed together to defeat the No. 1 team of West Virginia.

The Huskies return to action on Fri., Feb. 22 when they travel to take on Dartmouth.
