Women's Tennis Drops Dual Match To Syracuse, 6-1

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (February 17, 2008) - Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won her second singles match of the year as the University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell to Syracuse, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the East Hartford Racquet Club. The Huskies are now 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Orange moves to 6-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Herb defeated Simone Kalhorn, 6-4, 6-3, in the no. 2 spot to move to 2-1 on the year and earn UConn's lone point of the day vs. the Orange. Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) were also victorious for the Huskies, winning their no. 2 doubles match against Syracuse's Maria Vasilyeva and Jacquelynn Tang, 8-2.

"I was very pleased with the team's doubles play today," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "The majority of our singles matches were also very well played and the team's effort was excellent. We just came up short against a better BIG EAST opponent today. A strong team like this will help us to become tougher in our upcoming matches."

The women's tennis team returns to action on Mar. 10 against Cleveland State in Orlando, Fla. The Huskies will then face Valparaiso Mar. 11 as part of their Spring Break trip.
