ORLANDO, Fla. (March 10, 2009) – The University of Connecticut women’s tennis team won a 4-2 decision over Radford on Tuesday in a singles-only match. After dropping the first two flights, the Huskies recovered with four two-set victories. Doubles matches were not played due to time constraints.

After winning a tiebreak set to start, Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) shutout Spector (6-0) in the second to secure the win at No. 5 singles. Emily Searle (Lyme, Conn.) won 6-1, 6-3 in sixth singles.
Allison Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) moved up to the first singles spot and lost a 6-1, 6-3 match while Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) took over the second spot. LoRusso lost a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Mia Drobjnak.
“This was a great win for the team today,” head coach Glenn Marshall said. “We have been battling several injuries on the team and today we really played to our potential for the first time this season.”
UConn looks to continue the trend and improve upon its now 2-4 spring record and 2-5 overall mark. The Huskies continue the season in Tampa with a 2 p.m. match against Hillsborough CC on Wednesday.
