JERSEY CITY, N.J. (March 28, 2008) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team won its second match in two days and fifth consecutive as it defeated Seton Hall, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Yanitelli Center located on the campus of St. Peter’s. The Huskies are now 6-2 on the season.
Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) won the flight four singles match by defeated Amanda El-Tobgy in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 6-3 in dual match play this year. She also won her doubles match by partnering with Allison Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) to best El-Tobgy and Slavina Kaplanska, 8-0.
"This was a great win today over a very strong program," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. Jess Porter has led the way in the last two matches with a 4-0 singles and doubles record. Her two singles wins were clutch three-set wins, where in each she hung tough and competed very well. This five-match win streak is coming at a great time in the season."
BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz) and Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) defeated Liza Chu and Alexandra Harvey, 8-3, in the third doubles match to help UConn earn the early point. Both also won their singles matches in flights three and six, respectively. Cheung won, 6-2, 6-0, vs. Danielle Viola, while Moritz earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nathalie Ranger.
