Women's Tennis Falls To No. 1 Notre Dame 4-0 at BIG EAST Championship

TAMPA, Fla. (April 20, 2007) - The ninth-seeded University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell by a score of 4-0 to top-seed Notre Dame on Friday morning in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship, held at the University of South Florida's Varsity Courts in Tampa, Fla.

The Fighting Irish advance to the quarterfinals while the Huskies will now play in the consolation bracket.

In doubles, Notre Dame claimed wins at the first two positions to earn the point and force the No. 3 match to be suspended.

The Irish then swept through the singles matches, winning at the No. 1, 5 and 6 slots all by convincing scores of 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) took two games from Christian Thompson at No. 2 before the match was called with the score 6-0, 4-2.

The Huskies will take on seventh-seed DePaul in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
