STORRS, Conn. – The American Athletic Conference announced their post season awards for women’s tennis on Thursday with UConn junior Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) earning a spot on the all-conference team.
“I am so happy and proud of Lizzy for this outstanding recognition,” commented head coach Glenn Marshall. “She works so hard and has been such a huge impact player for our team all year. This honor is especially rewarding because it is voted on by the other coaches in the conference. It proves that she is one of the best players in the American Athletic Conference, and her outstanding results certainly back that up. She is an outstanding representative of our team, the athletic department, and our wonderful University.”
Pletnyeva had an impressive junior season, posting 23 singles victories to eclipse the 20-win mark for the second-straight year. She finished with a 23-8 overall record and in dual matches, she held a 16-6 record playing the majority of the season at the No.2 spot. During the closing stretch of the season, she posted an 8-2 record over her final 10 matches.
In doubles play, she posted 12 wins while teaming up with senior Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) all season at the No.1 spot.
In her three seasons at UConn, she has posted 63 singles wins and 43 doubles wins.
