2014 Fall Women's Tennis Schedule
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team will play in five tournaments this fall starting on September 12th through 14th at the Quinnipiac University Invitational to kick-off the fall portion of their schedule. The Huskies will also play a pair of dual matches this fall as they prepare for the second season of competition in the American Athletic Conference this spring.
The Huskies had an impressive showing at last year's QU Invitational with junior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) winning the "A" singles flight, sophomore Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) taking the "B" singles flight and senior Natalie Robson (Copley, Ohio) capturing the "C" singles flight at the event.
Following their trip to Hamden to open the fall, the Huskies will welcome the Bobcats to the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts on Tuesday, September 18th for a dual match. UConn will also play host to the University of Massachusetts on Thursday, October 9th to round out their home events during the fall season.
The Huskies travel to West Point, N.Y. on September 26th through 28th to take part in the Army Invitational. The schedule calls for a return trip to the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., home to the US Open, for the USTA Invitational on October 3rd through 5th. The Huskies will play in the Providence College Invitational on October 11th and 12th before closing out the fall season at the ITA Regional Championship, this year being held in-state at Yale University on October 16th through 19th.
Robson and classmate Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) along with Stosljevic make up the 2014-15 upper class and will lead this year's team. Stosljevic is the Huskies top-returner and played #1 singles all of last season piling up 20 victories. She finished her sophomore campaign with a 20-12 singles record and chipped in 19 doubles wins as well. Weinberg, who played much of the season at #3 singles, collected nine singles wins and finished with 15 doubles wins. She and Alderman ended last spring with a five-match doubles winning streak and were 7-3 in their last 10 matches playing together.
Alderman had an impressive rookie season for the Huskies, totaling 17 singles wins at #2, second on the team. Classmate Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kan.) picked up 12 singles victories and 12 doubles wins as a rookie as well.
Head Coach Glenn Marshall welcomes a pair of freshmen to the mix this season in Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) and Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.).
