STORRS, Conn. - For the second consecutive year, the UConn women's tennis team will send a program record number of players to compete at the ITA Regional Championship at Yale University. Seven Huskies will head to the New Haven campus this weekend to compete in the annual tournament to close the fall.
Senior Emma Alderman (Hingam, Mass.) and junior Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) are both entered in the singles main draw and teammed in the main draw for doubles. Joining them in the doubles main draw is the sophomore tandem of Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.).
Alderman has played at the No. 1 singles spot all fall for the Huskies and has a 5-3 record. Pletnyeva is in the No. 2 spot and has a 6-2 singles mark. The duo have played to a 3-3 doubles record. Fitz-Randolph and Perrotta have been impressive all fall, leading the Huskies with a 7-2 record.
Four Huskies are entered into the singles qualifying draw in juniors Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) and Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) and sophomores Fitz-Randolph and Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.). Lazaro has played to a perfect 6-0 singles record this fall while Zaki is 6-2.
The qualifying draw begins on Thursday with play continuing through the weekend.
