STORRS, Conn. (Dec. 3, 2008) – Head coach Glenn Marshall and the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s tennis teams announced the 2009 Spring schedule on Wednesday. Both teams start the season on the road in February before traveling to Orlando for spring break competition.
February 15th marks the start of play for the UConn men’s team with a pair of matches at Lehigh. The Huskies take on Lehigh and St. Francis (Pa.) before traveling to face Army (Feb. 20) and Stonybrook (Feb. 21) when they join the women’s team in West Point, N.Y. Women’s tennis opens the season against Stonybrook and Army on Feb. 21 and 22.
The women’s tennis team faces its first BIG EAST opponents at Marquette with matches against DePaul (Feb 28) and the Golden Eagles (March 1).
Both teams will take on South Dakota State in Orlando on March 9 while UConn men’s tennis will face Monmouth on March 10 and the women play Radford.
Following a March 20 match at Syracuse for the women, both teams host BIG EAST matches on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts for the first time in 2009. Georgetown and St. John’s will face the Huskies on March 21 and 22, respectively.
Those two matches mark the only conference opponents for the men’s team in March while the women host Seton Hall (March 27) and Cincinnati (March 28) before both teams end the month in non-conference action.
On March 26, UConn men’s tennis travels to Marist for a 3 p.m. match before returning home to compete alongside the women’s tennis team against in-state rival Quinnipiac on March 31 at 2:30 p.m.
Men’s tennis resumes play against Connecticut schools on April 2 with a match at Fairfield at 3 p.m. UConn women’s tennis will play five BIG EAST schools over a 10-day span in April. The first four are on the road before the Huskies host Villanova on April 11 in their regular season match of the regular season.
On April 9, men’s tennis hosts Boston University in its final non-conference match of the season before concluding the regular season with the April 11 Villanova match.
The men’s and women’s tennis team will travel to South Florida for the BIG EAST Championships on April 16-19.
