Huskies Land Seven Top-10 Finishers

Full Meet Results

The University of Connecticut women’s track and field team concluded a two-day meet in the Music City on Saturday evening. The Huskies took part in the Vanderbilt Invitational which ran from Friday, January 19- Saturday, Jan. 20 in Nashville, Tenn.

The event featured more than 700 athletes from 22 universities Alabama, Auburn, Belmont, UConn, Furman, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, SMU, Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, UAB, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.

Friday’s competition was highlighted by five top-10 finishes, including two in the women’s 5000m race. Freshman Brianna O’Brien crossed the finish line in 17:02.80 to claim third place, while junior Haley Hasty finished in seventh place with a time of 17:26.96. In the weight throw, junior Amaris Blount’s throw of 18.25m (59’ 10 ¾”) was good for tenth overall, while Connecticut crossed the finish line fifth in the distance medley relay.

Junior Divine Oladipo headlined the Huskies top performances on day two of the meet. On Saturday, Oladipo claimed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 15.74m (51’ 8”). Freshman Mia Nahom was the only other UConn athlete to turn in a top-10 finish. Nahom’s time of 9:45.44 in the 3000m was fast enough for an eighth-place finish.
