Huskies Enjoy Fine Showing at Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass - The UConn women's track and field team enjoyed several excellent performances at the Terrier Classic on Friday in Boston, Mass.

Senior hurdler Chantal Scott continued her strong season with a second place finish in the 60m hurdles, shaving time off her finish last week to set a personal record of 8.61 seconds. In the 60 meter dash, Taylor Anderson achieved a time of 7.63 seconds to grab fourth place.

The 4x400 meter relay team once again found success. The quartet of Deysha Smith-Jenkins, Paris Taft, Faith Dismuke, and Celina Emerson captured second place with a time of 3:40.44. The squad inches closer and closer to the school record, finishing less than a second off in today's meet. Deysha Smith-Jenkins shined as an individual athlete as well, earning a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.13. She and teammate Taylor Anderson (25.21) both set indoor personal bests in the event.

Emerson added a very strong individual effort with a personal best in the 400 meter dash, posting the fourth-best time in the nation with a 54.05 finish. Faith Dismuke also set a personal record with a 55.93 result in the 400.

The Huskies excelled in the 1,000 meter run with Emily Howard taking home a second place finish with a time of 2:54.13. Howard smashes through her personal best, lowering her new record by eight seconds. Laura Williamson finished a close fourth in 2:54.54, dropping her personal record down three seconds for a new best time.

The jumpers performed well for UConn on Friday in Boston. Natasha McLaren continued her excellence in the high jump by grabbing a second place finish with a leap of 1.75M (5-08.75). The Huskies dominated the triple jump with three top-four finishes. Melodee Riley led the way with a personal-best leap of 12.24M to top her old record by 22cm and clinch the first place finish. Odrine Belot finished in second with a 12.20M effort Sarah Bowens celebrated her birthday with a fourth place finish to cap a superb day for UConn's jumpers.

In her first collegiate indoor meet and debut as a Husky, Kelly Myers threw for 11.29M (37-00.50) in the shot put. Megan Chapman earned a seventh place finish with a 16.14M (52-11.50) effort in the weight throw to set a new personal record as well.

"The jumpers had an amazing day," said assistant coach Amy Begley. "This meet gave us a look at some of our American Athletic Conference opponents with UCF, Rutgers, and Temple among the competition at the Terrier Classic today."

Cherry and Silver Invite Update

Emily Durgin posted a fourth place finish in the 3,000 Meter Run at the Cherry and Silver Invite in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a time of 9:56.81. The mile run, in which Durgin will also race, is slated to take place on Saturday at 12:40pm UTC (2:40pm EST).
